As part of the Native American Heritage Month celebration, the library has two related displays. In the vertical case on the third floor is a display of traditional crafts done by Kerri Helme who is a Wampanoag potter, quill worker and weaver. The display includes photographs of the Indigenous Garden and Wetu project at the BSU Community Gardens this summer which was sponsored by a CART small grant. On the third floor exhibition area is work from Deborah Spears Moorehead. Ms. Moorehead is a member of the Wampanoag Tribal Nation and a descendant of Massasoit through his daughter Amie. Ms. Moorehead has a BFA from Swain School of Design and an MA in Culture and Traditional Sustainability from Goucher College. Ms. Moorehead writes that the focus of her paintings and drawings are “to assert the identity of the Eastern Woodland American Indian past and present.” The exhibition will be on display throughout the month of November.
